Are you ready for the new QLD smoke alarm legislation?

Injury and death caused by house fires could often be prevented with the correct smoke alarm installation. A devastating fire in Brisbane’s South in 2011 prompted changes to Queensland smoke alarm legislation. These changes will help improve safety and save lives in Queensland households.

Having started on January 1st, 2017, the Queensland government is rolling out the changes over a decade.

What does this mean for you?

Queensland Smoke Alarm Legislation Guidelines:

  • When replacing or installing new smoke alarms they must be photoelectric
  • Smoke alarms more than 10 years old must be replaced
  • Faulty smoke alarms must be replaced immediately

Our smoke alarm inspection service covers all aspects of any smoke alarms throughout the property, as well as identifying any fire safety risk factors.

Our Smoke Alarm Inspection involves:

  • Providing advice regarding compliance with state-relevant smoke alarm legislation
  • Identification of the type and functions of the smoke alarm
  • Testing all smoke alarms throughout the property
  • Assessment of the overall fire safety of the property

Our standard smoke alarm inspection report will be sent after each inspection.

Who Needs a Smoke Alarm Inspection?

  • Property managers
  • Body corporate
  • Private landlords

Why Is It Important?

This inspection ensures smoke alarms on your property are adequately positioned and are fully operational, significantly increasing the fire safety of your property and the people who live there.

Smoke alarm legislation changes – January 2022

From January 1st, 2022, the new smoke alarm legislation will apply to all domestic dwellings leased and sold. This is something all renters, landlords, home buyers and sellers should be aware of.

If you are planning to lease, sell or buy a home in the next few years, make sure the smoke alarms comply with the new legislation. The smoke alarms must be interconnected and installed in each bedroom, hallway and on every floor.

The new legislation ensures the types of alarms and how they are installed is optimal for giving you an early warning and the chance to escape.
